The Victrola Premiere V1 Music System is an all-in-one record player system that combines a belt-drive turntable, built-in stereo speakers and a separate powered wireless subwoofer. It is aimed at buyers who want a tidy living-room vinyl setup without choosing a separate amplifier and speakers.

Its appeal is convenience rather than traditional hi-fi purity. Alongside records, it can handle Bluetooth streaming from a phone and simple TV audio through an optical input, making it more of a compact music hub than a conventional turntable.

This review refers to the Premiere V1 Music System, also seen in the VPMS-1-ESP model family, which includes the S1 subwoofer. It should not be confused with the V1 Stereo Turntable sold on its own without the subwoofer.

The V1 has a soundbar-style layout, with the record deck positioned above the built-in speaker section. This gives it a neater footprint than a separate turntable and speaker package, and the modern finish is intended to sit comfortably in a living room rather than look like traditional hi-fi separates.

Supported construction details are stronger than those found on many very cheap suitcase-style players. The deck uses belt drive, a metal or aluminium platter, silicone slipmat, aluminium tonearm, adjustable counterweight and anti-skate control, plus a Victrola VPC-190 moving-magnet cartridge.

The S1 subwoofer is a separate powered unit with a 6.5-inch front-firing driver. It can pair wirelessly with the V1, although it still needs mains power, and it also provides wired input options plus rear volume and low-pass crossover controls.

One practical drawback is the dust cover. It is removable rather than hinged, so it protects the deck when idle but has to be taken off for record playback, which is less convenient than a conventional hinged lid.

The main feature is the integrated approach. The V1 includes stereo amplification and 2 x 10 W RMS built-in speakers, while the bundled S1 subwoofer adds low-frequency support that small record-player speakers usually lack.

Connectivity is unusually broad for a record player. Bluetooth input allows playback from a phone, tablet or computer, while Vinyl Stream can send record playback to external Bluetooth headphones or a speaker, with the internal speakers disengaged in that mode.

The optical input lets the system double as a simple TV audio unit. That is useful in a small or uncluttered room, though the available evidence suggests it should not be treated as a full replacement for a dedicated TV soundbar if dialogue clarity or home-cinema impact is the main priority.

For future flexibility, the RCA line-level output allows connection to powered speakers, an amplifier or a receiver. The system also provides a headphone output, 3.5 mm auxiliary input, wireless subwoofer pairing and a mono subwoofer line connection.

This is simpler than assembling a turntable, amplifier, speakers and subwoofer from separate components, but it is not completely plug-and-play. Initial setup involves fitting the platter, positioning the belt on the motor pulley, balancing the tonearm, setting tracking force and anti-skate according to the supplied manual, and removing the stylus guard.

The subwoofer may already be paired, but pairing steps are available using the controls on the V1 and S1 if needed. The rear speed switch must be set for 33 or 45 rpm, and records are cued manually.

Once installed, everyday operation is more approachable. Select the desired source, adjust the volume and use the remote where convenient; the only recurring nuisance is having to remove and replace the non-hinged dust cover.

The V1 is a two-speed belt-drive turntable supporting 33-1/3 and 45 rpm records. There is no supported evidence for 78 rpm playback, so shellac collectors should look elsewhere.

Operation is mostly manual. The user cues the tonearm by hand with the lift lever, and the system is not a fully automatic start-and-return design, although the manual states that the record stops spinning automatically at the end of playback.

Day-to-day use should be straightforward once set up. Source selection and volume are handled through the front function control or the supplied remote, with modes for vinyl, Vinyl Stream, Bluetooth, optical input and auxiliary input.

The range of connections makes the system more versatile than a basic all-in-one record player. However, Bluetooth codec support beyond the stated A2DP and AVRCP profiles is not specified, so buyers should not assume advanced wireless audio formats.

The supported design points to a convenience-first sound with added bass reinforcement rather than a neutral audiophile presentation. The moving-magnet cartridge, adjustable tonearm and belt-drive mechanism should be a meaningful step up from very basic ceramic-cartridge suitcase players.

The built-in speakers are physically limited by the compact soundbar-style cabinet, but the S1 subwoofer is the important differentiator. It should give the system more weight and scale than most record players relying only on small internal drivers.

Professional feedback characterises the V1 as enjoyable and useful for casual music listening, with a warm balance and subwoofer-assisted bass. At the same time, it has not been presented as especially detailed, neutral or a substitute for a well-matched separates system.

For TV audio, that warmer character may be less ideal. It is a convenient way to add sound to a television, but buyers focused on crisp dialogue or cinema-style performance are better served by a dedicated soundbar.
