The Denon DP-450USB Record Player is a semi-automatic belt-drive turntable aimed at listeners who want proper hi-fi-style setup without giving up everyday convenience. It combines manual cueing with automatic tonearm lift and playback stop at the end of a side, so it sits between simple fully automatic record players and purer manual decks.

Its main distinguishing feature is direct recording to a USB flash drive, with MP3 and WAV capture available from the front-panel controls. That makes the DP-450USB particularly relevant if you want to digitise records without routing audio through a computer.

This is not the same proposition as the closely related Denon DP-400, which lacks the USB recording function. The DP-450USB is best viewed as a convenience-rich hi-fi turntable for mixed modern systems, especially where a built-in phono stage and easy recording matter.

The DP-450USB has a compact, modern Denon design with a gloss-finished plinth and a neat, minimalist appearance. Its belt-drive layout uses a DC servo motor, and Denon describes the base, cabinet walls and platter as weighted elements intended to help reduce vibration.

The S-shaped static-balanced tonearm uses a removable headshell, which is useful for cartridge replacement or future upgrades. Tracking force and anti-skating are adjustable, so this is more flexible than fixed-force entry-level record players.

Controls are kept practical rather than cluttered. Speed selection covers 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm, while the USB recording buttons are placed on the front for quick access when capturing a record.

It is not fully automatic, so it will not place the stylus at the start of the record for you, but the auto lift and stop functions make it less demanding than a fully manual design.

Denon lists a speed auto sensor and a wow and flutter figure of 0.1% WRMS in the manual-led specification. Those figures point to a competent mid-market belt-drive design rather than a specialist high-end engineering platform.

Connectivity is one of its strengths. The turntable can work with systems that have no phono input, can bypass its internal EQ for external phono amplification, and can record directly to FAT16 or FAT32 USB flash drives.

There are limits to the USB implementation. The USB port is for recording to compatible memory devices, not for connecting the turntable directly to a computer, and captured albums may still need later editing into tracks with metadata.

The DP-450USB’s sound quality should be judged in the context of its feature-led design. Its supplied MM cartridge, 62 dB signal-to-noise specification and 0.1% WRMS wow and flutter figure suggest respectable analogue performance, but not a purist audiophile focus.

The included cartridge is a sensible starting point rather than a premium transducer. It should be adequate for getting started, but the arm and headshell design make future cartridge or stylus upgrades a realistic way to improve performance.

The built-in phono stage is useful for compatibility, especially with amplifiers or powered speakers lacking a phono input. More demanding systems may benefit from switching the internal EQ off and using a better external MM phono stage.

The overall character is best understood as convenient, full-featured and likely to be enjoyable in everyday systems. Buyers seeking maximum neutrality, detail and upgrade-led analogue performance may be better served by a simpler manual turntable and separate electronics.
